CASE STUDY: NIUM EXPLAINER VIDEO + short form VIDEOS

Nium is a global payments and card issuance solution for business. They are part of Forbes 2024 Fintech 50.

OVERVIEW

In 2021, Nium was setting up a booth at the Money 2020 Event in Las Vegas. They needed a short, catchy explainer video that will play in their booth to attract attendees, explain quickly what they do, and drive brand awareness.

They also wanted to create short, shareable versions of this main video – short form videos – that they can distribute on social media channels once the event has ended.

THE CHALLENGE

At the start of the project, we identified the following challenges that we needed to overcome to give Nium the results they want.

1.  Exhibit booths are noisy with a lot of traffic. Every booth competes for attention so we need an explainer video that grabs that attention in an instant.

2.  Nium has an extensive list of offers and features that we need to communicate but we are limited on time to say everything.

3.  The video needs to be less than 1 minute but needs to be also cut down for short form videos for social media.

OUR SOLUTION

This is what we did.

1. DEFINE KEY CONSTRAINTS

We started by defining key constraints for the video to address the challenges.

  • Less than 1-min long
  • High energy to grab attention
  • Short, punchy and clear messaging
  • Modular design, so it’s easy to cut down
  • No voice over
  • Simple design that can easily fit a wide (16×9) and square video format

 

 2.  NARROW DOWN FEATURES

Nium has 4 core offers that need to be featured in the video. Each offer has a long list of features, and we narrowed it down to only 3-5 features that will draw the most attention for each offer. 

3.  AGREE ON HIGH-ENERGY STYLE

We reviewed several high-energy video styles and agreed on the stomp style animation as our design direction.

4.  WRITE CLEAR 1-LINERS

Since there will be no voice over, we wrote each offer and feature as clear and punchy 1-liners that fit the animation style of the explainer video.

5.  DESIGN MINIMAL FRAMES

We kept the design of each frame simple with just 1 image and 1 text per frame.

THE RESULT

By implementing this solution, we achieved the following results.

1.  Delivered the final video 2 days before the deadline for testing in the event.

2.  The high-energy video coupled with music delivered the desired result and complemented well the booth design.

3.  We were able to deliver a short but clear and punchy introduction video for Nium despite not having any voice over.

4.  The Nium team was happy and reached out again to us when they added a new offer. We delivered in just a few days because of the modular structure we employed in the design.

5.  From the main explainer video, we delivered all the social media video cutdowns in less then a day because of the modular structure and simple design we employed.
