CASE STUDY: SCHRODERS ANIMATED INFOGRAPHIC VIDEOS FOR MONTHLY RELEASE
Schroders is a British multi-national asset management company with operations around the world.
OVERVIEW
Every month, the Schroders Asia-Pacific team publishes an infographic called “The Global Economy in Pictures”, which highlights important global market events that are relevant to their investors. The goal is to create 1-minute animated infographic videos to distribute in various Asian markets.
THE CHALLENGE
There were three major challenges in this project.
1. The main infographic is produced by a design agency and takes about 2-3 weeks to get regulatory approval before publication.
2. The video needs to be translated into five languages for distribution in various Asian markets.
3. The video, including translations, need to be published at the end of each month.
OUR SOLUTION
At the beginning of the project, we knew that templatizing the process is the only way to produce the videos quickly every month.
This is what we did.
1. design branded templates
We designed branded sets of intro, outro, titles, transitions and disclaimer animations across all translations and saved them as reusable assets and templates.
2. PATTERN FOR SCRIPT & STORYBOARD
We built a pattern for the script and storyboard to simplify the monthly message construction.
3. MODULAR PROJECT TEMPLATES
We made a modular project file template consistent with our script and storyboard structure. We made this for all translations of the video.
4. DEVELOP A COLLECTION SYSTEM
We developed a collection system to save images, animated icons, fonts, colors, and other graphics and organized them into a searchable library.
5. SIMPLIFY TRANSLATION WRITING
We created a fill-in-the-blank document to simplify the gathering of translations across different Asian teams.
THE RESULT
With this strategy, we achieved the following results.
1. Reduced production lead time by 62% from 8 days to 3 days.
2. Reduced production time of each translated video from 1 day to 2 hours.
3. Schroders was able to publish the video at the start of each month consistently.
4. The process and video output were effective, resulting in the project running for 5 1/2 years.
